HOW TO GET TO BIAŁOWIEŻA…

  • … by air?

    You can arrive at Warsaw Chopin Airport or Warsaw Modlin Airport (for low-cost carriers). Then consider going by public transportation or by the bus provided for TRACE 2016 participants. You can also rent a car.

  • … by car?

    When arriving at Białowieża by car you can use one of three routes from Warsaw:

    1. via Sokołów Podlaski, Siemiatycze and Kleszczele (c 230 km)
    2. via Zambrów, Wysokie Mazowieckie and Bielsk Podlaski (c 250 km)
    3. via Ciechanowiec and Bielsk Podlaski (c 240 km)

    The journey takes about 4 hours. When driving through Warsaw between 4 pm and 7 pm please consider possible traffic jams which can cause delay.

  • … by public transport?

    Take a train from Warsaw (“Warszawa Centralna” railway station) to Białystok. There are c 10 direct trains per day. The journey takes about 2.5-3 hours. One-way ticket fares are: c 30 PLN (7 EUR, second class ticket), c 60 PLN (14 EUR, first class ticket). For details check the Polish State Railways PKP timetable. You can buy tickets at railway stations or on-line (same web page, booking is available no earlier than 30 days prior to journey date).

    From Białystok to Białowieża (“Białowieża Waszkiewicza” bus stop), take a bus. The bus station in Białystok (in Polish: “dworzec autobusowy”/”dworzec PKS”) is near the railway station. There are c 5 buses per day. The journey takes about 2 hours. A one-way ticket costs c 15 PLN (3.5 EUR). For details check the VoyagerTrans timetable (please note that it may change in March-April 2016). You can buy your ticket from the driver when boarding your bus.

    There is also a direct bus from Warsaw (bus terminal Lubelska 08 by the “Warszawa Wschodnia” railway station) to Białowieża (“Białowieża Pałac” bus stop). There is one bus a day. The journey takes about 4.5 hours. A one way ticket fare is c 50 PLN (11 EUR). For more details check the ArrivaBus timetable. You can buy your ticket from the driver when boarding your bus.

  • … by bus provided for TRACE 2016 participants?

    For anyone interested we will provide bus transport between Warsaw Chopin Airport and the Conference Centre in Białowieża. The tentative plan is to provide one bus from Warsaw to Białowieża on 10 May 2016 in the afternoon and one on 11 May 2016 at noon. Two buses will also be provided from Białowieża to Warsaw on 15 May 2016. The journey is expected to take about 4 hours.

    Should you wish to book a seat in the bus, please include this on your registration form. Extended deadline for registration and booking transportation is 15 March 2016 (send registration form to 2016.trace@gmail.com). The estimated one-way ticket fare is 80 PLN (c 18 EUR). The final price and the number of buses provided will depend on the number of participants actually taking the bus and will be fixed by 20 March 2016. Payment should be made together with the registration fee by 7 April 2016.
